PASSING THE TORCH

Sometimes you hear about an organization that is so good and so right you can’t help but stop and take notice. The All You Got Tour is the perfect example. Co-founders Jacqueline Gabriela and Patty Duffy are making sure that teenage artists have the proper guidance. opportunities and choices as they attempt to follow their dreams. Check out the specifics of how they are making a difference:
Noise: Your organization is a twenty two and under live art and music tour traveling all over New England this year from June to December. How and why did you form and what do you do?
Jacqueline Gabriela: All You Got Tour is a partnership between Next Generation Concerts and the Young Performers Club. Why? Running youth events has its challenges. As you can tell, most of the performers are beginning their careers, so they do not have much of a fan base. Venues wants hungry families and parents thirsty for adult beverages. As most genuinely want to give kids an opportunity, they still need to run a business. The AYGT places our participants in captive audience settings; schools, festivals, camps, etc. We wanted to create a unique experience by showcasing live painters alongside musicians. This helps to captivate the audience while combining the arts for the purpose of inspiration.
Noise: So far you have over 30 stops booked and have auditioned hundreds of young musicians to place them on your stages. What is the ideal place to see your shows and can you give us a break down on where your current shows are scheduled?
Gabriela: The school and camp events are private but any of the other ones would be perfect! Here is a list of our current stops. We are adding more every week. (See schedule at end of story)

Noise: Do all the youngsters pass the audition or have you had to pull the plug on anyone’s dreams because they just suck?
Gabriela: All of the performers passed. Some are more experienced or naturally talented than others. The youth market is much different than the adult shows because these kids keep getting better with each performance. In our experience, we have seen shy performers with little experience become sensational. Our mission is give tour participants live music experience, build their EPK with photos, videos, marketing materials, recording, interviewing and in studio radio performances.
Noise: You showcase painters and musicians sharing the stage. In what manner and format?
Gabriela: On an average tour stop we showcase, three bands, two soloists (performing individual sets) with one to two painters presenting right on stage next to each other.
Noise: In your school and after-school programs you hire speakers to talk to kids about important social issues like addiction, self-esteem and bullying. How does this fit in with music and art and why do you add this to the mix?
Gabriela: We believe that by captivating the audience, which in this case are kids, they immediately become relaxed and inspired. When we add speakers to educate or share stories, the information is better absorbed, potentially helping young adults make better decisions when faced with peer pressure or experiencing hard times.
Noise: Your organization believes through the power of the arts you can make an impact in the community. Care to share any success stories or accomplishments you’ve witnessed?
Gabriela: I spoke and performed for a class of 100 at a local school. Students wrote letters and expressed how much they felt like they could relate to me. I can’t guarantee I changed their thought process but I know I made a difference. On March 19, 2017, we hosted a kick off event to raise money for the Tour. We had three speakers, two artists and 12 musical acts. After gaining audience feedback, we were told that they were inspired and emotionally connected to every aspect of the show. The young performers and artists were also blown away by the experience. We are excited to get started to see how much change and inspiration we can share with our audiences.
Noise: How is the All You Got Tour working to create more opportunities for young musicians?
Gabriela: We have booked some really exciting gigs, are actively creating partnerships with recording studios, radio stations, offering photo shoots, videos, live streaming at all events and potential sponsorship endorsements.
Noise: On your website there is a way for young artists to have an online audition. What does this entail?
Gabriela: The online audition process is over for now, but there could be potential to add artists throughout the tour. This is a six month tour and it is our first year, so we’re all figuring it out as we go. The online audition would entail a submission fee of $25 with live performance video, any online recorded songs, a short bio and photos included. We have top industry judges who decide who is “tour ready.” All You Got Tour founders do not decide who gets finalized on the tour.
Noise: Also on your site is a section on internships and jobs. What can you do for interested teenagers on this end?
Gabriela: We are looking for people to help staff events, tech assistants, digital design, sound engineers, photographers and sales associates (we are continuing our sponsorship campaign throughout the tour).
Noise: You also have a blog. What do you post on it?
Gabriela: We will post band interviews, news from tour stops, photos, videos, live stream segments, messages from our sponsors and any tour updates.
Noise: Zumix, Next Generation Concerts and Young Performers Club are three different organizations that have partnered with you for special events. Can you tell me a little about each one, what you do with them and what is the goal behind each time you work with each of these associations?
Gabriela: I gave you information on NExt Gen and YPC and Zumix is local music non-profit that we work with. They do amazing things for the local Boston youth community. We are still in discussion with them regarding how our partnership will be designed.
